Care and support: national debate launched
The government has launched a national debate on the future of care and support in England. In 20 years time a quarter of the adult population will be over 65 and the number of people over 85 will have doubled. The growth in the number of people who need care and support will put more pressure on services and on the financial support that services receive.
The debate will last six months, and focuses on how care and support services can develop to:
- promote independence, choice and control for everyone who uses the care and support system
- make sure that everyone gets high quality care
- target those who are most in need
- be affordable for the government, individuals and families
There will be a series of events to ask people for their views about care and support, and you can also contribute your opinions online.
