Anger leads to accelerated ageing
According to research carried out by the Harvard School of Medical Health people who are quick to lose their temper also lose lung power and age faster than those who keep their cool.
The researchers, who studied 670 men over eight years, concluded that getting angry causes physical damage to the body, particularly the lungs. These findings are similar to previous studies which linked anger to various medical problems.
Patient UK suggests the following ways to control your anger:
- Try to identify situations you find stressful by noticing the beginnings of tension
- Take steps to tackle what it is about these situations that you find stressful
- Make sure you have time for things you enjoy
- Take up a relaxing hobby
- Make sure you get enough sleep
- Eat a well balanced diet
- Take regular exercise
- Learn to relax
