Health concerns bring Brits home from Spain

Many pensioners who retired to Spain are returning to Britain as their health deteriorates. This trend seems to have been triggered by some people's experiences of health care in Spain.

Though the Spanish state health system is generally regarded as being efficient, there are key differences between it and the NHS that some British people living in Spain have had difficulties with.

One of the main ones is that in Spanish hospitals relatives of patients are often expected to feed them and change their bed pans.

Language has also been an issue with those not fluent in Spanish feeling they are unable to discuss their treatment properly.

Advice on these issues is available from the Age Concern Espana website
