Silver Surfers' Day 2005

Older people wishing to learn about the internet and email can get lessons at the nationwide Silver Surfers' Day on 27 May 2005.

Events will be held throughout the UK in libraries, colleges, Age Concern centres, pubs and church halls.

Learning to use the internet can enable older people to

  • shop and bank online
  • research hobbies or holidays
  • make new friends or keep in touch with family
  • learn about and manage finances
  • access government information and services

Participants will learn to surf the net and send and receive emails and attachments.

Some will also get to experience a 'live' web chat and field questions about e-Government to a Government representative. The chat will be led by Hackney Silver Surfers and hosted by Age Concern England.

Silver Surfers' Day, now in its fourth year, is part of Adult Learners' Week.
